BILOXI — As fuel prices edge up again, tourism officials are ready to entice visitors to South Mississippi with a $75 gas card.
The 10-week promotion runs May 6-July 15. The promotion was successful in 2008, when 525 of the $50 gas cards were given away to anyone who booked a stay two nights or longer through the Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Association, said Laura Hasty with Big 3 advertising.
This time the promotion is for $75 gas cards thanks to The Pantry Inc. The parent company of Kangaroo gas stations is contributing an additional $25 to the gas cards up to $10,000, said Richard Forester, executive director of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau.
In addition to the gas cards will be drawings for four prize packages, including $500 shopping sprees at Prime Outlets and gift certificates for hotel rooms, spa services and other amenities.
Advertising will target areas from Baton Rouge to Panama City and drive visitors to the CVB’s gulfcoast.org Web site to book rooms, said Hasty.
