More than 50 red-shirted Bank of America Corp. employees swarmed a Habitat for Humanity site in Charlotte Thursday, as the bank launched a campaign to donate 1million employee volunteer hours this year.
Looking to pitch in during hard times and to promote a culture of service, the Charlotte bank has renamed its employee volunteerism program and aligned it more closely with the bank's charitable initiatives, said Kerry Sullivan, president of the Bank of America Charitable Foundation.
"It's the right thing to do," Sullivan said. "But it's also good for our business."
The Bank of America Community Volunteers Program - formerly Team Bank of America - pairs employees with bank-backed philanthropic causes such as community development, health and human services and financial literacy. The company offers many of its employees two hours of paid time off per week to volunteer for various causes.
