Grocery bills dwindle as frugality sets in

A stay-at-home mom of four, Shauna Burden is one frugal shopper.

The Waterford, California, woman's advice on how to save money on groceries? Plan meals, make a list and leave the kids at home.

"Sometimes I bring my oldest son to help me bag," she said, adding that she doesn't save much when he's along because he talks her into buying extra snacks and treats.

Like Burden, we all want to save money, and trimming the grocery bill seems like a natural way to cut expenses. While she swears by planning ahead — she comes to the grocery store armed with a list of each day's dinners and their ingredients — others have their own tips, everything from shopping just once a month to eating before they leave home.
