BILOXI &mdash Community Development Director Jerry Creel said the city has issued more than $110 million in construction permits this year, putting development in line with the $250 million during 2008.
“What we’re seeing right now is a significant amount of development that had its funding and necessary permits in place before the downturn in the national economy,” Creel said. “There’s no doubt that we would be seeing more had the credit market not tightened up.”
Commercial construction is outpacing single family homes. Creel said permits were issued recently for 200 homes in Timber Creek, between Mississippi 67 and Hudson-Krohn Road in Woolmarket.
