‘Last-of-its-kind’ mansion is the priciest for sale in all of DC. Check it out
If you’re familiar with DuPont Circle in Washington, D.C., you already know the look and feel of an estate known as The Blaine Mansion.
And now that Gilded Age home is the most expensive on the city’s real estate market with a price tag of $29.95 million.
“The Blaine Mansion is one of the most extraordinary properties ever offered in Washington,” the listing on TTR Sotheby’s International Realty said.
“A blend of residential and commercial opportunities and a slice of the district’s rich history, this offering is situated in one of the most notable locations in the country,” the listing said. “A last-of-its-kind Gilded Age 7,000-square-foot mansion residence complements over 14,000 square feet of versatile income-generating commercial space within a stunning structure brimming with historical significance.”
The large, four-bedroom, 5.5-plus bathroom building built in 1881 was the dwelling place of Secretary of State James Gillespie Blaine. According to the listing, the house is a dream when it comes to entertaining, and could host “a 40-person sit down dinner or a 150-guest party.”
It also has a rooftop pool.
“There’s nothing [else] in this city that offers a private rooftop pool overlooking one of the most charming circles in the city,” listing agent Daniel Heider told Realtor.com. “Imagine yourself being able to go out on your rooftop and be in the pool, drinking a margarita and overlooking DuPont Circle. Right now, nothing compares to it.”
Other features include:
Elevator
Skylight
Fireplace
Library
Outdoor terrace
Grilling station
Vaulted ceilings
Sauna
The mansion even made an appearance on Friday Night Zillow, a popular Twitter segment run by Bloomberg political reporter Steven Dennis.
“Washington, DC has a new most-expensive listing: Blaine Mansion on Dupont Circle,” Dennis tweeted. “23,600 sf, 4BR, 7BA, includes commercial space, rooftop pool/grilling area, says 150 fits nicely for parties. $29.95M. Parking garage with 14 spaces.”
People were quick to fall in love with it.
“I love the outside of this house and always wanted to go inside. Thanks Steve!” one person said. “Now only if I was a multimillionaire. Or I would even just buy those parking spaces and make good money.”
“OMG, can you imagine living there??? Blaine Mansion, when can I move in. Don’t change a thing,” another gushed.
“I would love to get lost in a good book in that library area,” a third added.
