President Obama is heading to New York City for a Democratic fundraiser -- and staying over to spend some time with his daughters.
Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Obama was looking forward to the “rare opportunity” to spend a little personal time with his daughters, Malia and Sasha.
Obama has recently bemoaned the passage of time, with his eldest, Malia, looking at colleges.
At an Easter prayer breakfast he thanked attendees for their prayers, saying they were needed “particularly at a time when my daughters are starting to grow up and starting to go on college visits.”
He said he’s started “tearing up in the middle of the day and I can't explain it. Why am I so sad? They're leaving me," he joked.
He’s also quipped that as his daughters grow up, they’re less interested in spending time with their dad.
“They’re just growing up so fast, and they’ve got a busy life of their own,” Obama told People magazine. Malia Obama has been spotted this summer working on the New York set of HBO’s ‘Girls.”
Obama will return to New York next Tuesday to tape an appearance for the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The host’s last episode airs Aug. 6.
