Pot wins, fracking loses and genetically modified foods are too close to call. Election Day 2013 is history but its results will affect day to day lives across the country.

The minimum wage will rise in New Jersey and possibly in part of Washington state.

Detroit will have its first white mayor since 1974, NYC will have its first democratic mayor since 1993, Boston will have its first new mayor in 20 years.

And victories by Chris Christie and Terry McAuliffe signal deepening, complex divisions within the Republican Party.

Exit polling is answering and raising all kinds of questions:

  • Hillary Clinton would beat Chris Christie for president in 2016 among NJ voters if the election were held today
  • The economy was the top issue for voters, but will it be in 2014?
  • And is Virginia permanently purple or simply bruised by a rough election?
