Looking for a place to buy Thin Mints, Samoas and your other favorite Girl Scout cookies? You can start by checking your smartphone.

The Girl Scouts of the USA, a leadership development organization for girls, is offering a free cookie locator app this year at The app shows the nearest cookie booth sales in your area.

"(Smartphones are) where people are spending most of their fun time," said Debbie Caballero, marketing and communications director for the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia. "It's a fun and accessible app."

Girl Scouts are taking cookie orders right now. Those who ordered cookies will begin to receive them Feb. 11 and booth sales will begin Feb. 17. Booth sales end March 11.

Caballero said Samoas, vanilla cookies coated in caramel, sprinkled with toasted coconut and laced with chocolate stripes, are the most popular cookie locally, but Thin Mints, chocolate and mint-flavored wafers coated in chocolate, are the most popular nationwide.
