Myrtle Beach is caught in a bit of a sticky situation.
With all the improvements and new attractions in the heart of the city's tourist district, there's still one problem officials are chewing over: unsightly gum spots.
Sounds trivial, but stroll down the decorative sidewalks along Ocean Boulevard and you'll quickly notice the black blobs of spent gum that have permanently plastered themselves on the concrete. A gum-removal machine bought in 2009 has helped, but city officials - like their counterparts in other destinations who also have struggled to find their own gum solution - have learned there's no cure-all for the years-old dilemma.
