Cree will hold a dedication ceremony on Saturday for a house it helped build in Durham, N.C., that will have LED lights in every fixture.
It's the first home from a partnership between the Durham-based LED lighting company and Habitat for Humanity. Cree employees helped build it, partly as a philanthropic effort, and partly to demonstrate its LED lights, which last longer and are more energy efficient than traditional lights, reducing electricity bills.
Cree continues to thrive as it seeks to be a leader in the shift to LED lights. It's routinely held up by state and national politicians as an example of a homegrown company creating green jobs for a new economy. In September, company officials announced plans for a $135 million expansion in Durham, its second in less than a year.
