Overland Park police are investigating how a missing meerkat from the Kansas City Zoo wound up in Overland Park.
Police said a man dropped off the small African plains animal about 5 p.m. Friday in front of a Petco store at 6801 W. 75th St. The meerkat had been missing from the zoo since Nov. 4 and was returned to the animal park on Saturday.
Police said the man who left the meerkat at the pet store was described by witnesses as a white male dressed in a hat, hoodie and jeans. They want to speak to him.
A bite from a meerkat can cause infection.
Meerkats are very social animals and become very agitated when isolated.
