Racial taunts mar California high school basketball game

It wasn't a championship game and there was no bitter rivalry between the teams. But heated words were exchanged between some members of the Esparto girls basketball team and parents of Biggs High School players at a game Thursday night.

As tempers flared and words were exchanged, it got ugly — marked, Esparto players said, by racial taunts and an epithet.

By all accounts, things escalated after Biggs defeated Esparto and a 16-year-old Esparto player ran across the court to confront a woman she believed was taking pictures of her during the game.

She said the woman was with a group pointing and laughing at her and two other African American players.
