California to students: Those tattoos might not be safe

Everybody's heard the tale of the guy or gal intoxicated by love or otherwise, who on an impulse gets a tattoo, only to lament the decision.

A new public health campaign wants those on the brink of getting ink to consider the risk of also getting a deadly disease.

UC Davis Cancer Center and California State University, Sacramento, have rolled out the "Be Smart With Body Art" campaign because they're concerned that college students are unaware of health risks posed by tattooing and body piercing.

A recent Sacramento State survey found 40 percent of college students thought visiting a body art shop was safe.
