And now, just for fun: Illinois district having soap opera of a semester

A truancy officer gets canned for sending sexually inappropriate electronic messages.

A girls volleyball coach may be fired for getting drunk at an out-of-town tournament with students.

A teacher's aide is on leave with pay while the district continues to investigate her conduct while attending a party with underage students where alcohol was served.

A high school vice principal is under investigation by a private detective agency hired by the school board while he, too, remains on paid leave.

A special education teacher quit in October after denying she had an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old student.

And all this stuff is happening at once, said Granite City School District Superintendent Harry Briggs.

"It's unprecedented. It really is. It's something that I've never encountered," Briggs said. "And it seems like everything has just come together all at one time ... I'm hopeful to get to Christmas and not have any more incidents."

All the employees were contacted but none responded to requests for comments. Briggs has declined to release their names.
