STATE COLLEGE - Amid news of the murder of one woman and attacks on others who offered services on Craigslist.com, a search Tuesday shows hundreds of postings on the site for "casual encounters" or "erotic" services by men and women in the State College area.

Boston police Tuesday charged a 23-year-old medical student with the murder of a masseuse whom they say he lured to a hotel room through Craigslist. Philip Markoff is also charged with the kidnapping and armed robbery of another masseuse lured to another hotel.

Police are investigating whether Markoff is connected to the attempted robbery last week in Warwick, R.I., of a stripper who had posted an ad on Craigslist.

"Do I come to you? Or do you come to me?" is the title of a State College-area advertisement posted on Craigslist, and goes to the crux of the reason why such postings are so dangerous, police say.

"It's very risky," said State College police Lt. Chris Fishel. "Because if they don't do proper background or have a service that verifies a person's identity, then they take the risk of meeting someone like the (man) up in New England."
