It was a motorcycle accident that nearly claimed the life of Ira Barrett's wife and served as the inspiration for his "Ride to Eternity."
The Easley resident, who owns the Black Stallion Motorcycle Hearse, was in Columbia this week for the S.C. Funeral Directors Association Conference and Expo.
Barrett and his wife, Laura, who are both avid bikers, were riding together in 2006 in Liberty when they hit a deer, leaving her with serious injuries and in a coma for several days.
