Restaurant servers feel economic pinch: low tips

Leaning over from behind the bar at Corky's Ribs & BBQ in Hamburg, Ky., Randi Thorton is feeling a financial squeeze.

Something looks amiss here for the Monday lunch hour. Not only is the place less crowded than it should be, but her expectations for tips are very, very low.

”There's definitely a downturn in business and tips,“ Thorton said, ”and I understand everyone's trying to keep their money tight to pay the bills, but this is how I pay my bills, you know?“
