Going green is no longer just the right thing to do — it may be coloring the bottom line.

Sustainability initiatives can directly reduce costs on everything from packing material to transportation. And more and more consumers concerned with global warming, hazardous waste, oil prices and energy conservation are choosing to spend their money at businesses that think likewise.

So now banks are offering bonuses for paperless accounts, department stores not only offer reusable designer tote bags to replace plastic bags but also carry organic fashion brands, and some coffeehouses let customers choose between china cups or plastic foam.
