It was a scene played out Monday in cemeteries across the country — Americans paying tribute to the fallen.
That's what brought Yvonna Golla, her family and about 100 others to Crown Memorial Park near Pineville, N.C., to reflect under shady oaks on a day reserved for the most sacred of reflection.
Each Memorial Day, the cemetery spotlights a veteran buried there.
Twenty months ago, Golla and her family buried her only son, Marine Lance Cpl. Cliff Golla, 21. A roadside bomb killed him Sept. 1, 2006, near Habbaniyah in central Iraq. He was serving a second tour.
