Want a job in Kansas City? This database tells what they pay

Thousands of workers on the public’s payrolls in Kansas and Missouri make six-figure salaries, but eight of 10 make less than $50,000.

Perhaps not surprising, university employees are among the highest paid. And both states’ top elected employees — the governors — are way, way down the list of best paid.

Those are just some of the findings of a database analysis of 140,000 area public employees’ salaries, compiled for the first time by The Kansas City Star.

The salaries are being made available today at Info Central, a new library of searchable databases on www.KansasCity.com/info central. Info Central also includes other databases and documents, from the most popular area pet names to university coaches’ contracts.
