The FBI will conduct a preliminary investigation into an altercation involving a Sedgwick County detention deputy that left an inmate seriously injured, relying on breathing and feeding tubes.
The detention deputy has been suspended with pay pending an investigation of the Feb. 15 incident, which left inmate Edgar Richard Jr., 59, with a severely broken jaw.
Richard's brother, Joseph Richard, said Tuesday that although his brother's condition has improved from critical to serious, he remains on life support at a Wichita hospital.
