ANTHONY WEINER. The New York congressman sent lewd pictures of himself to a woman following him on Twitter. He resigned his office after the news broke in 2011, and is now seeking to become New York City’s mayor.

JOHN EDWARDS. The 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee fathered an out-of-wedlock child with mistress Rielle Hunter, after first denying the affair, then denying the child was his.

ELIOT SPITZER. The New York governor, known for his crusading ways, was soliciting high-class prostitutes. He resigned in 2008, became a television news pundit, and is now seeking to become New York City comptroller.

MARK SANFORD. He was supposed to be hiking on the Appalachian Trail, but the South Carolina governor was in Argentina seeing his mistress. He confessed to the affair in 2009, ran for Congress in May and won.

NEWT GINGRICH. Being unfaithful to his first two wives helped torpedo those marriages. The former House Speaker unsuccessfully sought the 2012 Republican presidential candidate, but won primaries in South Carolina and Georgia.

LARRY CRAIG. The Idaho senator pleaded guilty in connection with a 2007 sex sting in the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. He chose not to run for re-election in 2008.

MARION BARRY. Convicted of cocaine possession in 1990, he bounced back quickly, winning a Washington, D.C. city council seat two years later, and in 1994, regained his post as mayor. Still sits on the city council.

DAVID VITTER. The Louisiana senator’s phone number was on the list of the “D.C. Madam” in 2007 and Vitter conceded “a very serious sin in my past.” He won re-election in 2010 by 19 percentage points.
