Trump blasts Oscar-winning movie from South Korea — then the movie company fires back
At a rally in Colorado Thursday, President Donald Trump criticized the choice for best picture at the Oscars, even though he said he never saw the South Korean movie.
“We’ve got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of that, they give them best movie of the year. Was it good? I don’t know,” the president said in a video of the Colorado Springs rally shared by CNN.
“Can we get like ‘Gone with the Wind’ back please? ‘Sunset Boulevard,’ so many great movies,” he said.
Parasite became the first foreign language movie to win best picture at the Oscars.
The film, which has English subtitles, tells the story of a poor family that “comically infiltrates a wealthy family residing at a luxurious mansion before things unravel violently and tragically,” according to the Associated Press.
In response to Trump’s criticism, the company distributing the movie tweeted, “Understandable, he can’t read.”
