‘No war with Iran’ protests planned across the US. This map shows where they will be

More than 200 “No war with Iran” marches are being planned across the U.S. Thursday.

The marches come amid rising tensions between the two countries after the Trump administration killed one of Iran’s top military leaders.

Groups organizing the marches include Win Without War, MoveOn and AboutFace among others. In a statement Tuesday, the groups say they want to urge restraint and for the U.S. /to avoid “yet another unnecessary, costly war of choice in the Middle East.”

Protests will take place at 5 p.m. local time Thursday. There is an online map of events, with marches currently planned in Washington, D.C., Sacramento, California, and Charlotte, North Carolina to name a few of the marches in major cities.

The Jan. 3 killing of Iranian Quds force leader Qasem Soleimani was carried out over concerns that he was developing plans to “attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region,” according to initial reports by the Department of Defense.

Iran promised immediate retribution, and carried out airstrikes on two Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops late Tuesday. More than a dozen missiles targeted the bases, Pentagon officials told CBS News, but there is no indication that either U.S. officials or Iraqi officials were killed or injured in the attacks.
