New York governor Andrew Cuomo helps free driver from car wreck, video shows
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo helped rescue a driver from a multi-car pileup in New York City, video shows.
The governor had been leaving an event in Manhattan when his motorcade passed the crash on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway Monday, according to WCBS 880.
In a video posted to Twitter, the suit and tie-clad Cuomo could be seen grabbing the legs of a driver in a van sitting on its side, and helping the man down to safety. The driver then steps from the median and into the arms of first responders.
It is unclear what caused the crash. The video was captured by the governor’s staff.
Regina Caterers, the company that owned the van, told the Patch in a statement that it was “extremely thankful to all the first responders.”
“Our primary concern is in the well-being of our driver and any other motorists involved in the crash and hope that no one sustained any serious injuries,” the company said in a statement released to the outlet.
Today’s rescue isn’t Cuomo’s first time helping drivers in trouble. The New York Daily News reports the governor’s team regularly shares photos and video of Cuomo helping motorists, often during storms.
