After a standoff that lasted more than seven hours, Kansas City police on Monday arrested a man suspected of cutting his girlfriend’s throat and fleeing with their 4-month-old baby, prompting an Amber Alert.
Tactical officers pumped pepper spray into a house in the 5000 block of North Crystal Avenue in Kansas City, North, where the suspect was believed to be hiding. Tactical officers searched room by room until they found the suspect in a bedroom about 1:20 p.m.
The incident began about 2:10 a.m. at 3635 Sunrise Drive in Kansas City’s Northeast area when the girlfriend told police her boyfriend had attacked her. She said she was asleep when she was awakened by her boyfriend cutting her throat with a box cutter, police said. The boyfriend fled in her mother’s vehicle with the baby, John Michael Glorioso.
Authorities found the infant at a residence near 51st and North Corrington streets about 5:50 a.m. Police found the mother’s vehicle abandoned nearby. Police tracked the suspect to the house on North Crystal and worked for hours to try to negotiate his surrender.
