The body of a Hispanic man whose clothes match the description of the suspected kidnapper of 4-year-old Juliani Cardenas was recovered today from the Delta-Mendota Canal near Patterson, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department said.
The sheriff's department said an employee with the San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority notified Stanislaus County Sheriff's detectives about 8:30 a.m. today that a body was found floating in the canal south of Fink Road, south of Patterson.
Sheriff's detectives, the West Stanislaus-Patterson Fire Department and the sheriff's dive team responded and recovered the body of an adult Hispanic whose physical and clothing description matches that of suspected kidnapper Jose Rodriguez. Rodriguez is suspected of kidnapping the boy from his grandmother's arms and then driving into the Delta-Mendota Canal.
The body was recovered about 11 miles south of where detectives determined that Rodriguez drove his car into the canal with Juliani after kidnapping Juliani from his grandmother on Jan. 18.
