BELLEVILLE -- Kara Stanczyk woke up Saturday morning and found that the gray 2009 Chevrolet Malibu she bought two months ago was burned inside.
Stanczyk, 21, who lives on Smokehouse Way near Belleville, was one of seven people who found their vehicles set on fire early Saturday.
"We woke up because the fire truck was outside and the car in our neighbor's driveway was just flaming," Stanczyk said. "We said, 'This is bad. I feel really bad for those people.' My dad went to check our cars and when he opened the door, the smoke just rolled out."
It appeared that someone lit crumpled paper and threw it inside the car, Stanczyk said. There was change missing from the car, but her iPod was still inside. She wasn't sure how much damage the inside of the car sustained.
"It's going to the body shop on Monday," Stancyzk said.
