FORT WORTH -- As mourners gathered Tuesday at a memorial service for a popular Trimble Tech student and athlete who was killed last week in a wreck, burglars looted his family's southeast Fort Worth home, a relative said Tuesday night.
"They took everything, including Eric's baseball trophies and awards," Rudy Inocencio of Fort Worth said. "They also took nearly $1,000 that was raised at a candlelight vigil. It's horrible."
Eric Trevino, 16, was killed about noon Friday when the car he was riding in struck two other vehicles in the 2200 block of Eighth Avenue. Two other motorists were injured.
His funeral was at 10 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.
The small church was filled to overflowing for the hourlong service, which included some classmates who were excused from school to attend if they brought notes from their parents.
"More than 300 people were there," Tech Principal Manuel Cantu said. "Some of his teammates were wearing team sweaters and caps."
According to Inocencio, the family went to Greenwood Memorial Park for the burial after the funeral. His parents, Jaime and Laura Favela, were planning to attend a gathering afterward.
