A Kansas City, North woman tried to hire a hit man to kill her ex-husband, Clay County authorities have alleged.
Dorothy M. Cascone, 58, was charged late Monday with one count of first-degree assault in the murder-for-hire scheme. Cascone is being held on $100,000 bond in the Clay County Detention Center, said Prosecutor Daniel L. White.
The plot unraveled on Sunday when the purported triggerman contacted federal investigators and began cooperating with authorities, according to court records.
Cascone had approached the witness and asked him to kill her ex-husband, court records said. She wanted the witness to shoot her ex-husband while he was home asleep. Cascone initially wanted the shooting to occur about midnight on Monday “because the fireworks and other guns would be going off,” court records stated.
However, the witness told Cascone that shooting her ex-husband could not occur on that evening.
