FLORENCE -- A Florence County man was sentenced Thursday to 400 years in prison on fraud charges related to the 2006 deaths of his mother and stepfather in Williamsburg County.
Timothy Poole was sentenced in federal court to 20 consecutive 20-year terms for mail fraud after the deaths of his mother Linda Poole-Hilton, a Pawleys Island businesswoman, and her husband William Henry "Bubba" Hilton, according to the U.S. attorney's office in Florence.
The sentence came about two months after Poole was convicted of the mail fraud counts. Prosecutors said he engaged in mail fraud to access his mother's money after her death. While he did not face murder charges in federal court, the fact of his mother's and stepfather's murders were allowed as factors to enhance his the mail fraud charges, according to officials in the U.S. attorney's office.
