Another Illinois city council votes to ban strippermobiles

Collinsville, Ill., is now the second city in the St. Louis metro area to outlaw the so-called "strippermobile" from its streets.

The City Council on Monday approved an ordinance banning live entertainment from vehicles or trailers within the city limits.

"It's my job to inform the council that this is not a joke," said Police Chief Scott Williams.

The van full of scantily clad dancers performing behind untinted glass has been reported near several locations in Collinsville, including an ice cream shop, in an effort to advertise adult-entertainment establishments.

"It's an effort to generate publicity, and it's working," Williams said.

Fairview Heights, Ill., passed a similar ordinance on May 4.
