A Miami-Dade police officer was arrested early Tuesday, accused of pulling a man over and stealing more than $120,000 from him, police said.
Arrested in connection with the robbery: Miami-Dade police Officer John F. Villar Jr., 28; his cousin, Fausto Villar, 28; and Leonardo Lastre, 31.
Lastre runs an online gambling site, police said. It was not immediately clear what his relationship with the officer was.
They face several charges, including armed robbery, armed burglary and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
"It's sad that an officer would use his authority in order to commit such unlawful acts," said Detective Bobby Williams, a Miami-Dade police spokesman. "It tarnishes the image of all police officers when an officer does something like this."
Officers with Miami-Dade police's professional compliance bureau conducted the investigation.
