The 21-year-old son of former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez pleaded guilty Wednesday in connection with the stabbing death of a college student on the San Diego State University campus and faces up to 16 years in prison.
In plea bargains, Esteban Nunez and co-defendant Ryan Jett, 24, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and they admitted using a knife and causing great bodily injury.
The two face maximum sentences of 16 years in prison when they are sentenced June 25 in San Diego Superior Court, the San Diego District Attorney's Office said in a written statement Wednesday.
Fabian Nunez, now a political consultant for Mercury Public Affairs, could not be reached for comment.
