Maurice Clemmons' sister charged with aiding getaway driver

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist on Wednesday charged the sister of Maurice Clemmons with aiding the cop killer's getaway driver in the aftermath of the Nov. 29 shooting of four Lakewood police officers.

Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of Latanya Clemmons, 34, to four counts of first-degree rendering criminal assistance.

Lindquist contends in charging documents that Latanya Clemmons gave Darcus Allen, 37, a ride to a local hotel after the shooting, paid for two nights stay there and provided him with $300 to buy a bus ticket to Arkansas.

She allegedly told Allen to "lay low" until things "blew over," the charging documents state.

Authorities believe Allen was at the wheel of a pickup that delivered Maurice Clemmons to a car wash not far from the Forza Coffee Co. shop where he shot dead Lakewood Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39, and officers Tina Griswold, 40, Greg Richards, 42, and Ronald Owens, 37. Clemmons, 37, fled and was killed by a Seattle police officer 42 hours later.

Investigators also believe Allen drove Clemmons away from the scene following the shooting. He has yet to be charged in the case. He's being held indefinitely on a no-bail fugitive warrant from Arkansas while investigators continue to review evidence, Lindquist said.

Sheriff's detectives arrested Latanya Clemmons on Friday following a court hearing she attended for two other women charged with helping Maurice Clemmons after the shooting. Three men also have been charged with helping the killer.
