A 16-year-old boy has been hit with burglary and assault charges after he allegedly lured his girlfriend's 12-year-old sister out of her bed and kept her hidden overnight because he was upset with his girlfriend's mother, according to police.
Police say as the mother, Bethann Hawley, was admitting her 16-year-old to a mental institution, Elijah Brewster called her to say he was in her home and that she would regret admitting his girlfriend. When Hawley got home, 12-year-old Charlene Connolly was gone, police said.
Police say Brewster kicked in the door to his girlfriend's home sometime after 11 p.m. and woke up Charlene, telling her they needed to help her sister. The girl didn't know her sister was in the hospital and, according to police, was afraid of Brewster but went with him to help. Brewster stole two kitchen knives before leaving the home, police said.
Police contacted Charlene on her cell phone early Wednesday morning, when she said she was behind a school near a Fred Meyer with some friends but would not give dispatchers other details, police spokeswoman Anita Shell said. Police could not reach her on her cell again, and she never showed up for school.
