MIAMI -- A Miami man is guilty of manslaughter in the crossfire slaying of 9-year-old Sherdavia Jenkins, Miami-Dade jurors decided Thursday.
Damon "Red Rock'' Darling, 24, was accused of fatally shooting the little girl when he opened fire on another man on a sunny day in July 2006 at a housing project in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood.
Jurors deliberated less than two hours Thursday and less than an hour on Wednesday evening.
"As long as he's convicted, that's one less person off the street that we have to worry about,'' David Jenkins, Sheravia's father, said after the verdict. "Our lives have been upside down for a while, but this is a milestone.''
