EULESS, Texas -- Reazul Islam wants his job back.
Islam was fired Monday from his job as a Valero employee, two days after robbers stomped and beat him as they stole beer from a Valero station in the 1000 block of Fuller-Wiser Road.
"I went outside the store when the man walked out," Islam, 35, said Tuesday. "He pushed me down and punched me. Another man came and did it, too."
On Monday, Islam's manager called him to say he was fired and to turn in his Valero shirt and a company security pendant.
"Valero doesn’t comment publicly about crimes at its stores, other than to say that we will work with local law enforcement to prevent crimes and provide evidence if they occur," Bill Day, a Valero spokesman, said in an e-mail to the Star-Telegram on Tuesday. "We also do not comment publicly about employee issues."
Other Valero workers said Tuesday that Islam, a two-year employee, broke company policy by leaving the store and that he did not use his security pendant to alert police.
"I just followed to see where he went," Islam said, referring to the robber. "No, I didn't go after him."
