Grubhub driver ran over woman asking him to social distance outside, Illinois mom says

A Grubhub delivery driver in Illinois was arrested after turning himself in for running over a restaurant worker who told him to wait outside on Friday, police say.

Aamir Mohammed, 30, went to Ms. T’s Southern Fried Chicken in Chicago to pick up a delivery order, WBBM reported. When he arrived, the owner said she asked him to wait outside due to social distancing guidelines, according to the outlet.

“I only have one person at a time in my restaurant because it’s so small, and he told me no, he was not going to step outside,” owner Angenita Tanner told WBBM.

Tanner said the food wasn’t yet ready because Mohammed had arrived early, WGN reported.

He allegedly kicked the door of the restaurant, damaging it, before hitting Tanner’s daughter with his car and driving off, according to the outlet.

“Just trying to make a day’s living for me and my family, and for something like this to happen; and the thing about it is we are all trying to make a living. This was uncalled for,” Tanner told WLS.

Police say 24-year-old Bijan Early suffered injuries to her head, pelvis, arms and shoulders, WGN reported. She’s in the intensive care unit, Tanner told the outlet.

“She is on a breathing machine,” Tanner said, according to WLS. “She is sedated because she is so much pain.”

Disturbing video of the incident obtained by Block Club Chicago shows the victim and others standing outside talking with a man in a mask behind the wheel of a silver Toyota.

A man behind the camera can be heard saying, “You just threatened to run her over.”

After a brief exchange, Early says, “We’re waiting on the police for you, baby, because, you just kicked our door. This is too much disrespect that we get on a day-to-day, and we’re just trying to be essential workers and feed people,” according to the video.

Not long after, the car rams into Early, sending her onto the hood of the vehicle before the video ends.

Mohammed was arrested Saturday night after turning himself in and faces a number of charges including failure to report an accident, aggravated battery and leaving the scene of an accident, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

In a statement to WBBM, Grubhub said it was “shocked and appalled” by the incident.

“We have revoked this driver’s access to our platform and terminated his contract with us,” the statement said. “We are fully cooperating with the Chicago Police Department and have reached out to provide them with information about this driver.”
