Still waiting for a coronavirus stimulus check? The direct deposit deadline is coming
If you haven’t received your coronavirus stimulus check yet, you still have a chance to get your money through direct deposit.
But the IRS deadline to sign up for it is quickly approaching, according to the agency’s website.
After the deadline passes, the IRS will send out millions of paper checks that will get to you later this month or in June, CNBC reported. About 130 million people have already gotten their payments, but millions more are still waiting, according to TEGNA.
You can get your money sooner by signing up for direct deposit before noon on May 13, the IRS says. Once the window to sign up closes, the IRS will send out paper checks and you’ll have to wait, TEGNA reported.
“We’re working hard to get more payments quickly to taxpayers,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. “We want people to visit Get My Payment before the noon Wednesday deadline so they can provide their direct deposit information. Time is running out for a chance to get these payments several weeks earlier through direct deposit.”
Get My Payment, which is updated daily, tracks when you will receive your stimulus payment, if you provided your direct deposit information on your last tax return, the IRS website says. You can also use Get My Payment to input your bank account information if you did not provide it on your tax return.
Individual Americans will receive $1,200, and married couples will receive up to $2,400, plus an additional $500 for each child in the household, the IRS says.
