Getting alcohol delivered has never been easier in these states because of coronavirus

Depending on where you live, you can now get alcohol delivered with your pizza and other food during the coronavirus outbreak, media outlets reported.

States including California, New York and Texas have eased liquor laws in order to help restaurants and other businesses, outlets reported.

California restaurants can temporarily sell “beer, wine, and pre-mixed drinks or cocktails,” for delivery or pick-up if it has “a secure lid or cap” along with food, according to The Mercury News. California also allowed alcohol to be sold at drive-throughs, The Mercury News reported.

California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statewide stay-at-home order on Thursday, according to The Sacramento Bee.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo also announced on Tuesday that businesses can sell alcohol for takeout as long as they follow open-container laws and are sold with food. A stay-at-home order was issued Friday in New York for non-essential workers.

Maryland issued an executive order on Thursday, allowing restaurants and other businesses to sell alcohol for delivery and take-out “if promptly taken from the premises before consumption.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Wednesday in a news release that restaurants can deliver alcohol, including beer, wine, and mixed drinks, alongside food.

Nebraska will also allow restaurants and other businesses to sell alcohol with food in takeout and delivery orders, according to a press release by Governor Pete Ricketts.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced a similar change on Friday, allowing restaurants to deliver alcohol with food or with to-go orders, according to The Denver Post.

“I’m proud that we’re taking additional steps today to allow restaurants that are maintaining delivery and takeout to also make alcohol sales alongside food sales,” Polis told The Denver Post. “This will help them continue to stay afloat during these trying times.”

Vermont Governor Phil Scott said on Thursday that he was lifting rules on alcohol sales, allowing restaurants to deliver alcohol with food, Burlington Free Press reported.

Kentucky residents will also be able to get alcohol in their drive-thru, carry-out or delivery orders as long as it’s accompanied by food, Governor Andy Beshear announced on Thursday, according to Kentucky Sports Radio.
