Born: November 4, 1946

Raised: Midland, Texas

Education: Bachelor's degree in education from Southern Methodist University. Master of Library Science from the University of Texas at Austin.

Personal: Married in 1977 to George W. Bush. Children: Twins, Barbara and Jenna Bush, age 23.

Interests: Hiking, camping, reading, education, history, gardening.

Initiatives: Strongly supports women's education around the world, teaching, childhood education and literacy. She and the Library of Congress started the National Book Festival in Washington. She also promotes campaigns to relieve breast cancer and heart disease. Currently working on an initiative to curb youth gangs.
