Commentary: Wise move by Jerry Brown to return donations

Attorney General Jerry Brown's campaign team disclosed this week that Brown would return about $52,000 in campaign donations he received from people associated with two men under investigation by his office.
That was a smart move that will help preserve the integrity of Brown's office while also removing a potential taint from a campaigner who in the past made his mark as a scrappy proponent of political reform.
If Brown didn't return the funds, it would have become a major issue in his campaign for governor next year.
The questionable campaign money came from associates of Sacramento lobbyist Darius Anderson and the firm of Los Angeles fundraiser Daniel Weinstein.
Neither man has been charged with any crimes, but their firms are being probed for their roles in helping money managers attract multimillion dollar investments from public pension funds. This is an investigation that will have national repercussions.
