Commentary: Looking beyond annual homicide numbers

A recent report by the Violence Policy Center has reconfirmed what most of us already know: Black people are killing black people at astounding rates. In 2009, African-Americans made up 13 percent of the population and 47 percent of homicide victims, according to the latest FBI data available analyzed in the report.
