Commentary: Religion only seems important to Americans in an election year

The public prominence of faith during a presidential campaign is akin to Iowa's re-emergence as a state that matters once every four years. People don't talk much about it the rest of the time. Could be because religion, like the Hawkeye State, isn't that important to most Americans.
