An outside group trying to influence Mississippi’s Republican race weighed in heavily Thursday, as Club for Growth Action released a new ad blasting Sen. Thad Cochran.
Cochran, a six-term Senate veteran, is vying with State Sen. Chris McDaniel in a June 24 runoff election for the Republican Senate nomination.
The 30 second television ad says “It’s sad what’s happened to Thad Cochran. He served well, but after five decades, he’s lsot touch.”
The ad goes on to claim he votes with liberals--despite a consistently conservative voting record.
Cochran’s backers maintain such ads show that outside groups will have too much sway over McDaniel. Such groups spent about $5 million during the June 3 primary campaign to boost McDaniel’s candidacy.
The Club for Growth Thursday also released a one-minute radio ad making similar points. It said its new buy is “large” and “six figures” and will run on Mississippi broadcast and cable television.
