Congress is preparing for another weekend of work, or at least debate, as the impasse over how and whether to fund the federal government continues.
Both the Senate and House of Representatives are scheduled to meet Friday. The House is expected to consider more piecemeal efforts to open parts of the government, efforts most Democrats reject.
There is some bipartisan conversation. Reps. Charles Dent, D-Pa., and Ron Kind, D-Wisc., are pushing a plan to keep the government funded for six months, while repealing the 2.3 percent medical device tax that helps fund the new health care law.
The Senate overwhelmingly endorsed repeal earlier this year, and the House agreed a few days ago.
Dent, though, conceded to PBC that it would not be well received on the far left or far right.
But, he noted, "the Democrats are acknowledging a deficit with this law...and Republicans are going to get some incremental change."
So far, the plan has attracted about two dozen supporters.
