Miami pair advance in Scripps National Spelling Bee

Crystal Schermeister, 12, from Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Vaidya Govindajaran, 14, from Miami competed Wednesday against 278 other spellers ages 6 through 15 from around the world in the preliminary rounds at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Both students advanced to Thursday's semifinals.
