Vetting stumble? Treasury nominee underpaid taxes

Tim Geithner, the president of the New York Fed, claimed a dependent child-care tax credit for children's attendance at overnight camps in 2001, 2004 and 2005. When an accountant apprised him in 2006 that the credit is for things such as after-school care, not overnight camps, Geithner failed to amend his past returns. The treasury secretary is in charge of the IRS.
