In N. Carolina, 41 percent of voters have already cast ballots

More than 2.5 million North Carolina voters cast their ballots early this year, more than doubling the previous record of 1.1 million, set in 2004. That's an astonishing turnout of 41 percent of the state's registered voters — before Election Day. It came in a year with hardfought races for governor and senator as well as president.
